This eliminates the need for you to manually enter the date, time, longitude, and latitude. Simply locate and use the hand control to manually point slew the telescope to three bright celestial objects. You do not need to know the names of the stars you may even pick the Moon or bright planets! Celestron's NexStar software technology will model the night sky to determine the position of every star, planet and celestial object above the horizon.
Once aligned, the remote hand control allows direct access to each of the celestial catalogs in its user-friendly database. User-definable filter limits make navigating through this expansive database quicker and easier.

EdgeHD virtually eliminates both field curvature and off-axis star coma, providing an astrograph-quality system at a fraction of the price of competitors. EdgeHD optical tubes are sold separately or paired with our most popular telescope mounts. Even when focused sharply in the center of the field of view, this curved plane cannot bring stars at the edges into focus.
The wider the field of view, the more pronounced this defect becomes. This may be acceptable for some visual observing, but when a curved plane is paired with the flat sensor of a digital camera, stars become noticeably out of focus at the edges. EdgeHD optics produce a focal plane more than three times flatter than a standard Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and dramatically flatter than other competing coma-free designs, guaranteeing you visibly sharp stars all the way across the imaging sensor.
A curved focal plane cannot produce consistent results on a flat CCD chip. Stars will appear out of focus at the edges. Compare the two images of M3 below. The first was taken with a competing coma-free optical design, the second with EdgeHD. Both images were taken with the same 35 mm chip 42 mm diameter focal plane camera under the same conditions.
When focused on-axis, both images appear to be sharp in the center.

But in the first image, as you examine the stars closer and closer to the edge, the stars become larger and less focused. Finally, at the very corners, the stars are so defocused that they appear as rings instead of pinpoints. Now look at the second image. As you move from the center outward, the stars retain their focus from edge to edge, appearing as crisp, solid points of light.
Superior edge performance not only creates rounder, more pleasing stars, but actually improves the resolution and limiting magnitude compared to telescopes of equal aperture. Compare the two cropped images below, both taken with a 37 mm chip 52 mm diameter focal plane camera.

The result is an instrument that delivers a sharp, flat field across a large area which should be good for both Solar System and deep-sky targets. Once we had collimated the optics, stars did indeed appear sharp right into the extremities of our images. The RA and dec. A 23mm wide-angle, 2-inch eyepiece is included. We felt we were floating in space having been given a ring-side seat to view this exquisite system.
A view of the Wild Duck Cluster, M11 in Scutum, showed a myriad of individual stars neatly separated. Rich globular M15 in Pegasus was as impressive, the stars resolved from the core right out to the extremities. The quality of the field of view appears excellent and produces acceptably sharp stars from corner to corner, even when using the image sensor on a full frame DSLR. The Moon and planets appear bright and very well presented through this instrument, the inch aperture having sufficient resolving power to reveal intricate detail.
Despite low altitude, a view of Saturn delivered a planet that had that much sought after wow factor. The native 2,mm focal length and supplied wide-angle eyepiece are really comfortable for deep-sky viewing. The smaller, elongated oval of the Ring Nebula, M57 in Lyra, appeared bright and conspicuous through this scope.
With the sharp optics we were able to comfortably split both pairs of nearby Epsilon Lyrae, the Double Double, quite easily using the supplied x eyepiece. Two dust-filtered vents at the base of the scope help reduce cooling times. A click-lock dew cap protects the corrector when the scope is not in use.
A manual focuser is provided that moves the mirror back and forth inside the optical tube as it is rotated. It is well matched for the scope and feels precise in use. Scope arrived within few days after placing the order. Optics looks great. Scope required small collimation but it can be done very easily with high mag eyepiece and a bit defocused star.
In addition, package contains Celestron premium Luminos 23mm 2 inch eyepiece which looks very promising Finally, my strong advise to get heated dew shield for it because corrector plate gets foggy very quickly due to temperature difference inside and outside of tube mirror cooling down during night. Takes a while to find focus initially as stars are either just visible with a quarter turn of the focus know or invisible, once near very easy to focus with a mask Star colour - WOW!
Decided to buy this kit to upgrade my old SkyWatcher scope. It arrived the next day and I've been nothing but impressed with it. The optics are razor sharp, construction is very good and high-quality. Mount is easy to assemble, lightweight and very accurate. I'm able to get s unguided exposures after just a rough polar alignment, which is extremely good. If you're thinking about getting a scope that is going to be versatile, good at pretty much everything you throw at it - and most importantly - compact and lightweight while still offering lots of apreture - this is the scope for you.
